Happy New Year!
With a new year comes many changes and we have a big change at
BeauKnits. I am retiring...
It is my 2nd time! Nine years ago, I began planning for my retirement as
a School Administrator. With my close friend Pat Sweeney and
Greenwich yarn shoppe owner Barbara Simonian, we created BeauKnits Yarn
Shoppe. The shoppe opened June 4, 2004 and Pat ran the shoppe
during my last year of work.
It has been a great 8 years. We have all made new friends, taught
each other many new skills, had some awesome classes and got to purchase
beautiful yarns, needles and patterns.
Whenever the shoppe has been open, knitters and crochetters have come in
and just relaxed and enjoyed the company. Our Wednesday afternoon
Knitters - sometimes about 15 are awesome and on Friday night...it is
the best.
We have done much together always welcoming new customers. Our memories
include the many overnight trips to Rhinebeck and Hartford, Christmas
get-togethers at Bonnie's and lets not forget the summer weekends at
Wiawaka on Lake George!
We have had a great time with Yarn Crawls, Knit in Public days and the
Knit-Ins at the Art Center in Troy. Oh, and what about our recent
Yarn Bombing of Remsen St. !!!!
One of the most special things about BeauKnitters has been their
generosity. So many times you brought in unused yarn and needles.
We were able to distribute them to oh so many groups including the
Damien Center, the Cohoes Senior Center, the Little Sisters of the Poor
and the Sisters of St. Joseph.
We always had a Community Outreach that we were working on.
Bags of mittens and hats went to the Cohoes City School children.
Baby blankets and preemie hats went to Albany Med and Ronald McDonald
House. We sent lap robes to the VA, special gifts to Guardian
House in Ballston Spa, Dress for Success in Albany, etc. etc. etc.
And lets not forget the school supplies you gave each year at the
opening of school.
We were able to gift the Cohoes Community Center over $1250. in 8 years
with the sale of your "old patterns and books'. Has it been
awesome ....you bet.
And now it is time for me to join my husband in our retirement
together.. We tried selling the business but after 10 months,
there has been no serious interest. So what will happen next....
